Instead of beginning a new year full of resolutions which involve changing ourselves, I'd like to encourage you to enter the new year with acceptance and meeting yourself wherever you are at.

Some people may want to introduce or re-introduce some healthier habits after the Christmas indulgence, but there are ways we can take kind and supportive steps to enable ourselves to create habits that suit our bodies and minds, as opposed to a temporary strict regime. We can do this in yoga through Sankalpa which is a Sanskrit word meaning intention, it could be a a positive affirming statement such as 'I choose health'.
Finding some time for yourself:
As a mum of two children I understand it can be hard to find time for yourself but if you can find a way to even take 10 minutes to move mindfully on a mat at home, this could be your way to a little bit of movement in a lot of places. Focusing on your inhale and exhale first, taking slow deep breaths followed by some yoga shapes that feel good for your body (you could try some of these ideas from rewilding.yoga Instagram page).
Or you could gift yourself an hour of slow flow yoga on a Saturday morning.
It doesn't have to be a 90 minute yoga class at a studio to still be yoga:
Laying out your mat, even when the house might need a tidy, encourages us to focus inward and although you may be aware of the outside distractions (I always seem to notice I need to hoover the carpet) you don't need to involve yourself in those distractions for the time you are practising yoga. You won't regret the time you have allowed yourself to rest in Savasana at the end.
Not comparing yourself to others:
Rather than looking at what others are doing, find what feels good for you. To begin to feel content is to find peace with where we are at today and knowing this will look and feel different each day. A book I found particularly helpful with this idea is
If you have never tried a yoga class before perhaps 2026 will be the year you try something new; beginners are always welcome at rewilding yoga sessions. If you have had a few weeks off and are missing some yoga, I'll be teaching yoga this weekend both in Pampisford for adults on Saturday and Family Yoga in Sawston on Sunday.

I am really looking forward to getting back to regular relaxation sessions on Saturdays.
Love how this removes the pressure of a new you for 2026!
